Mom’s Chocolate Cake

          

This is the best chocolate cake I have ever had. It bakes up high and it’s fluffy. Everyone loves it when I make this cake. It is the only chocolate cake I will ever make. Enjoy!

Original recipe makes 1 – 9×13 inch pan

Ingredients

2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup hot, brewed coffee
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Cream the sugar and shortening together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and mix well. Stir in the cocoa, milk, flour, baking powder, boiling coffee, baking soda and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
