If you’ve ever tried potato bread, you know that the addition of mashed potatoes makes for some nice, soft bread and, unlike a lot of homemade breads, these loaves stay soft for a surprising number of days.
Potato Bread
Milwaukee Rye Bread
I found this in an inherited recipe box dated 1936. It originally called for 2 tablespoons fat, but I have substituted margarine or shortening with good results. I do not recommended making this recipe in a bread machine. If necessary, one tablespoon of active dry yeast can be substituted for the compressed yeast in this recipe.
Zadi’s Potato Bread
This recipe can also be used to make rolls versus whole loaves of bread. Great at any holiday dinner.
Grandma Cornish’s Whole Wheat Potato Bread
This is the recipe that my husband’s grandmother made for her family, my mother-in-law made for hers, and I have inherited the fun of making this bread for mine. We particularly like this fresh out of the oven, and then eat it daily for breakfast. My father-in-law at 86 years old bragged about never having eaten a slice of ‘store bought bread.’
Granny’s White Bread
This is the only bread recipe I use! It’s very basic and always great. I grew up on it, so I continue to make it in memory of my special Granny! Enjoy this with your kids or grandkids and make some memories! God bless!
