Southern Chess Squares

          

This recipe is similar to many others I’ve seen, but in my opinion, these are the BEST! They are also great for bake sales when individually wrapped.

Original recipe makes 1 – 9×13 inch pan

Ingredients

1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 cup melted butter
1 egg
1 cup chopped pecans
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
4 cups confectioners’ sugar
2 eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan. Mix together the cake mix, melted butter and the egg. Stir in the chopped pecans. Press mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese with the confectioners’ sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time until blended.
  3. Pour cream cheese mixture over crust. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Cool in the pan, then cut into squares before serving.
