Frosted chocolate and molasses spicy cookie.
Original recipe makes 4 dozen
Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 pinch salt
1/2 cup hot water
48 walnut halves
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Cream shortening and sugar together. Add egg and molasses, mix well.
- Sift together dry ingredients, add to shortening mixture, alternating with hot water. Mix well.
- Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet, cool. Frost with Butter Frosting and top each cookie with a walnut.
