Dried cranberries and pecans are added to a basic bread fermented with a sourdough starter. We love to make French toast with it.
Holiday Bread
Chelsea Buns
These large, buttery rolls are my family’s favorite Christmas tradition. We eat them on Christmas morning under the tree!
Red Velvet Belgium Waffles
So delicious and decadent. Wonderful. Made the perfect Valentine’s Day breakfast. Very rich. Makes quite a bit of glaze.
Gluten Free Garlic Dill Dinner Rolls
My mother sent me this as a quest for breads for my sister and mother-in-law. A little tweaking and it’s a recipe my family enjoys.
Chocolate Almond Pumpkin Bread
This is a yummy recipe I got from a real estate agent who used to leave whole pumpkins on our doorsteps around Halloween time. Super easy and quick to prepare! My family LOVES it!
Matzo Balls
A great and tasty traditional meal. Serve in a soup, or in a bowl of milk. Either way its great!! This is an old family recipe. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have every Christmas and Hanukkah morning!
Norwegian Skolebrod
These sweet buns are a Norwegian holiday specialty treat. They may be filled with your choice of vanilla pudding, custard or French pastry cream!
Christmas Stollen II
This fruity, yeast bread is very addictive. It is good for breakfast, tea time, and after dinner snacks.
Savory Butternut Squash Pancakes
This is a breakfast alternative and can be served with omelets and/or breakfast meat. They are not meant to be sweet, although the squash has it’s own sweetness. The dried shallots add a subtle background flavor and are not at all obvious. No one will have a clue that they are eating squash, so it’s a good way to get nutrients into those picky eaters. If desired, you could serve them with maple syrup.
Scandinavian Sweetheart Waffles
Heart-shaped waffles are a traditional treat throughout Scandinavia, made crisp in Sweden and soft-textured in Norway. Topped with jam or berries and whipped cream, or wafer-thin slices of gjeitost (Norwegian brown goat cheese), they’re a favorite with coffee or as a snack. This recipe is my adaptation of Norwegian-style waffles served by my friends Megan and Sverre in Trondheim, Norway.
Valentine’s Day Strawberry Muffins
These muffins get their name from the sliced strawberry on top that resembles a heart. Perfect for Valentine’s Day or when you have too many strawberries.
Homemade Flaxseed Donuts
Great homemade donut taste with a twist that the kids will never notice!
Strawberry Fritters with Chocolate Sauce
This is my own take on beignets, a classic French dessert recipe. I take fresh strawberries, coat them with batter, then fry them, beignet-style. These strawberry fritters make my mouth water, they are so good. I love the combination of airy, crisp pastry, with lightly cooked fresh strawberries, and rich chocolate sauce.
Southern Corn Pone Bread
A bona fide Southern tradition! Authentic Southern corn pone is never sweet, and is baked in a cast iron skillet. Just like Grandma used to make!
Cheddar Rolls
These unique rolls are easy-cheesy. The tomato sauce adds a bit of tang and turns the dough an orange color. I use my heavy-duty electric mixer for this, so I don’t have to knead it by hand. Also, with the extra yeast, dough can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours before forming and baking.
Marzipan Christmas Kringle (Juleskringle)
This marzipan tubular bread is an ABSOLUTE must for the Christmas season, and a traditional dinner would not be complete without this Christmas Kringle for dessert. It may seem complicated at first glance, but if you follow the recipe step by step, it is actually quite easy and you will amaze your family with this beautiful dessert. This is an extremely rich and decadent treat so guests only need a little. Often a coin is hidden in the kringle and it is thought that the finder will be guaranteed good luck for the upcoming year. As such, it is considered bad luck not to indulge at Christmas!
Swedish Saffron Buns
These traditional Swedish-style saffron buns are frequently baked around Christmas time. They are a very tasty and lovely tradition!
Pumpkin Polenta Cake
The grainy texture of polenta and the marriage of flavours of pumpkin and sweet spices create a unique versatile loaf. Can also be made with cooked sweet potato or butternut squash instead of pumpkin. Serve warm or cold with savoury or sweet dishes.
Pumpkin Butter Bread
I had some extra pumpkin butter and came up with this recipe. This delicious, moist bread is flavorful and fragrant; the smell when cooking reminds me of Thanksgiving!
Holiday Mincemeat Muffins
Mincemeat muffins are a traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas morning breakfast for our family. They can be made several days ahead and kept in the freezer. Bring them out and warm them up for a festive morning treat.
