Chocolate One Minute Icing

This may be the icing that you are looking for. It is very chocolaty and has a soft set to it. Try using a butter-flavored shortening. It makes the recipe double rich. My mother always used it on Devil’s Food cake.

Original recipe makes 3 cups

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup canned evaporated milk
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup shortening
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Place the sugar, evaporated milk, cocoa, and shortening into a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once the mixture is boiling, continue cooking and stirring for 1 minute.
  2. Remove from heat, and add butter and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until thick, and use immediately.
